before and after

You know how I was saying we were kind of upgrading Daughter's room and I vaguely mentioned that nightstand in that last post? This is it. This is the nightstand in question.

before

Not the prettiest is it? Especially not for a five year old girl. Maybe if she were in her 80's, but then she wouldn't live here. I'd still be alive though. I'm going to live forever. However, it is an Ethan Allen and we found it at the thrift store with a very nice price tag.

So she wanted it blue. I'm not really sure how she all of a sudden got on this blue kick since just five days ago (we started this project four days ago) she adored pink and everything MUST BE PINK. Now it's blue. 5 year olds are so fickle. She did however pick out pink handles. Maybe she felt bad for betraying pink and that was her way of making up for it. I'm not sure what goes through her mind, so it is possible.

So it was stripped and sanded. Three coats of paint and two coats of varnish later (I was told the paint was washable and mildew resistant, but it's going in a kids room; kids are not always kind to furniture).

after

I chose the paint color, keeping it in the blue family but so that it would still match those pink handles. The handles we got at Target (totally random and a very nice surprise) and I can't remember the paint color, but it's Behr. I would have liked to use the no VOC paint that they sell at Home Depot (I love that stuff and have it in every room except the kitchen) but it only comes in gallons. I used less than a quarter of a quart.

Now, apparently Son wants to go somewhere as he just had me put on his coat and hat.

  2. Oh that came out great! :D I want to paint our dresser black, and change out the knobs to brushed nickel, but the husband isn't so thrilled with that idea. :(

Such a lovely and soft BLUE. And the pink knobs totally turned it into a girlly girl dresser!
